It's not easy for us to forgive others. Eddie's father chose to forgive his friend Mickey. He jumped
into the cold water to saved the guy who he wanted to kill before. He forgiven
him, even he made a big mistake. I think Eddie's father is right. Everyone can
make mistakes in life. Sometimes, those
mistakes hurt us seriously. We feel so anger with them, but things are not
always what they seem. Like Mickey, he was coarse, but he was not evil. In our life, there are many
problems like this. We should
be tolerant.

In order to eliminate contradiction between Eddie and his father, Ruby showed two scenes to Eddie. The first scene is Eddie’s father wanted to kill his friend Mickey, who attempted to rape Eddie’s mother. The second scene is Eddie’s father saved Mickey in sea because Eddie’s father remembered what Mickey did to help his family. Ruby told Eddie that Mickey was drunk and depressed when he was waiting Eddie’s father. In Eddie’s mind, the 56-year-old man, his father, calmly died. However, Ruby told Eddie that his father was frozen to death because her husband’s hospital bed was near his father’s. Moreover, before Eddie’s father died，he was very pain in mental. When Ruby knew Eddie’s family had relationship with Ruby Pier, she felt sad and hoped her husband was never built it. So her heaven is the boxcar dinning room. Ruby taught Eddie that people should learn how to forgive because anger not only will hurt others but also will make you painful. Ruby hoped Eddie could forgive his father. After Eddie knew his father’s stories, he forgiven his father.
