the boxcar was the Ruby’s heaven. Ruby will tell a lot of things about his father and teach a lesson for Eddie. When Eddie saw his father, he recalled his childhood and his felling about his father. The third story is about Eddie and his father. The Ruby is just a narrator to tell Eddie what happened in his father.

The feeling of Eddie about his father was complicated. He hated his father. When he was young, his father always drank and gambled. When Eddie’s father was unhappy, he always whipped Eddie and Eddie’s older brother. On the other hand, his father strictly required Eddie’s work and Eddie knew his father felt pride of him, which made Eddie very happy. In Eddie’s deep mind, he thought his father was the model.

At the boxcar, Ruby and her husband did not have much money but the life was very good. She hoped the sad thing was not happened.

She hoped her husband did not built the Ruby Pier and did not be injured in the Ruby Pier. She hoped the sad thing was not happened. Moreover, the sad stories between Eddie and his father were also happened in the Ruby Pier. The kind-hearted woman hoped all the sad things did not happened.

When he first showed his dirty fingernails, his father said, “shows you did a hard day’s work”. After Eddie’s leg broken, he was deflated. His father wanted fitted him. Eddie’s father hoped Eddie could work hard. When Eddie’s father was ill and saw his son was work hard, he felt happy. It is a special way between Eddie and his father to express their feelings.

“All parents damage their children. It's can't be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair." Parents have big influence on their kids, they are the first teachers for the kids. parents have responsibility to take care the children because they will influence the children's personality. In my opinion, the most important for kids is their parents praise. Kids need parents focus on them, they need love by parents. One of my friends' father perennial working outside, he even didn't remember his father in his childhood. He is shy and introverts, doesn't like talk with others. He said he hoped his father could stay with him when he feel lonely. He hoped his father could protect him when Someone bullied him, but his father didn't. He became quit. Didn't want talk with others. His father has big influence on him. So do every child. Parents should spend more time with their children. It's good for both of them.
